The Area School MOCI Class comprised of 15-22-year-old students who volunteer at the Harrison Moose weekly. The Moose partners with the Area School to provide work enclaves for our students. March is Reading Month, and the Great Start Family Coalition held its annual reading night on Zoom. Each registered family received a book, a snack, and a list of activities. This year, we picked a book about fort building. Each family built a fort, and then we came together on Zoom to read the book and eat snacks in their fort. On Friday, February 28th, Katie Cook and Jessica Joerin from Clare County were recognized as outstanding parent leaders at the National Birth Parent National Network meeting. They are core parents for the Parents Are Leaders Family Coalition and members of the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council. The two MOCI Classes celebrated Chinese New Year. The 15-to 22-year-old students learned how to cook Almond Boneless Chicken and Crab Rangoons while the 22-26-year-old students did research. The two classes came together and celebrated while learning about another culture. During this project, the students practiced their cooking, researching, and socializing skills.
