The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-21-year-old students, went shopping at Five Below for their families. Before the shopping trip, the students put together a shopping list and were given a budget. The students talked with their families and came up with interesting gift ideas. With our lists prepared, they went shopping. All the students had a great time and were very successful in shopping. It was great to see them really put thought into what they were buying. The Five Below staff were excellent and supportive! The students had then wrapped all their presents to share with their families for the holiday. The Area School enjoyed a great afternoon with Santa and his crew. Santa delivered dragon T-shirts personalized with each student’s name on the back, with help from the Clare County Reserve Sheriff Deputies. Students also had the chance to take photos with Santa and share some of the items on their Christmas lists.

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-to 21-year-old students, created the viral wreath sweaters to wear for Crazy/UGLY Sweater Day. The students designed their own sweaters by picking out the bow ribbon, colored bulbs, and garland. Each sweater reflects the student's own design. Together, each student worked with a staff member to assemble their shirt. We had a great time using our creative skills.

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-to 21-year-old students, made Christmas cookies this year. The students discussed what their favorite cookies are and then decided which two they would make together. The students selected reindeer rice krispies and stained-glass cookies. The students used a recipe to create a list of supplies and followed it to make the cookies. We all enjoyed them, and the students took a plate of cookies home to their families.

The Area School MOCI class, made up of students ages 15 to 21, invited the 21- to 26-year-old class to celebrate Thanksgiving together. The 15- to 21-year-old students prepared the dinner, while the 22- to 26-year-old students made the desserts. The meal included turkey, stuffing, brown sugar carrots, green bean casserole, gravy, fresh cranberry salad, broccoli salad, and deviled eggs.

Students worked together to discuss menu options, vote on selections, and create a shopping list. In the days leading up to the luncheon, they prepared the dishes, set the tables, and arranged the food area. Students also served at the food table. Once everyone was served, the group sat down to share what they were thankful for. It was an enjoyable experience, and everyone appreciated the time spent together.

Students from the Clare High School Drone Club spent an evening helping Farwell Middle School SPARKS students take aerial photos of the forest at the Clare-Gladwin RESD. They also practiced a search-and-rescue operation, looking for staff members dressed as the Grinch! Students successfully found the Grinch, one human decoy, and four other decoys. Thanks to Nick Winter and Duncan Gervin for being such good sports and hiding in the woods, James Winkler from Clare HS for bringing his students and their drones, and to Rebecca Idzikowski from SPARKS and Joe Trommater from REMC 5 for putting the event together. #CGRESD #ourstory #SPARKS

Today, the Area School visited the CGRESD Business Office next door to go caroling. Students and staff had a great time sharing the holiday spirit!

The Clare-Gladwin CAN Council distributed 50 ham dinners today to Clare and Gladwin families for their Christmas meals. Santa also stopped by to wave, visit, and give children time to feel comfortable admiring him, sharing a wrapped book with each child to take home. It was an amazing day supporting our littlest community members. #CGRESD #ourstory

Duncan Gervin, Data and Assessment Coordinator, took Coleman Elementary teachers through a data protocol using their M-STEP Target analysis looking for areas of strength and growth. Participants practiced looking at data using a structure that had them thinking about their curriculum, teaching strategies, and their resources. #CGRESD #ourstory

Harrison School families came to Harrison Middle School for a family STEM night. Dixie Gabalis from SPARKS brought together her staff, Harrison Middle and High School staff, Joe Trommater from REMC 5, Community Mental Health, National Honor Society members from Harrison, Chartwells, Hayes Township, The City of Harrison, and the Moose Lodge and Family Center. Activities included breakfast for dinner, STEM Games and Activities, Christmas Crafts, and more. Over 90 people joined in on the fun! #CGRESD #ourstory
