There were some exciting activities happening at the Area School this week! Students from Ms. Wisman’s class worked together to make salsa using vegetables grown and harvested from the school's garden. The students had a great time collaborating and creating a delicious snack.
Additionally, we were honored to visit with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics participants on Thursday. It's always a meaningful experience, and our students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the officers.
Finally, it’s inspiring to see our staff engaging with students in ways that meet their individual needs and create meaningful connections.

Clare-Gladwin CTE and Mid Michigan College partners to provide the high school seniors in our area with an opportunity to gather information and begin exploring colleges, training programs, and job opportunities so they may begin planning for life after school. Senior Focus Day started in 2018, and approximately 40 businesses, colleges, training programs, and agencies participated. The seniors who participated reported that Senior Focus Day helped relieve some of their stress; they found answers to their questions and gathered new information on job opportunities and college/training programs available. This year, participation grew to over 70 businesses, colleges, training programs, and agencies, and the number of local schools attending increased to 14, bringing more than 700 students to the event. #CTEitsWorking #CGRESD #seniorfocusday

At Clare-Gladwin RESD, our occupational therapy team focuses on developing students' visual-motor and eye-hand coordination skills. These skills, which involve the eyes and hands working together to complete tasks, are essential for success and independence in school. We incorporate fun and engaging activities into therapy, making it feel more like play than work while addressing these important skills! #CGRESD #Occupationaltherapy #OurStory

Last week, our dedicated Area School staff participated in several engaging training sessions, one of which centered around an inspiring book we'll be reading together throughout the school year. The book is titled "The Energy Bus for Schools," co-authored by Jon Gordon and Dr. Jim Van Allan. Our team truly enjoyed collaborating and learning together during these sessions.
We're also thrilled to share that Area School staff have been awarded a Meemic Foundation grant! This grant includes an invitation to the Annual Cheers for Educators virtual event, featuring author Jon Gordon himself. This opportunity is especially exciting as we'll be working with and learning from his book all year long.
We’re looking forward to a year filled with energy, collaboration, and growth!

As an Occupational Therapist, Chantelle McLean's role is to ensure students have the necessary assistive technology to achieve success and independence in the classroom. One approach she is focusing on this year is providing an adaptive writing paper. Chantelle's goal is to ensure that her students who use this resource feel similar to their peers. They will have notebooks that look similar to their classmates, but inside, they'll have the special paper that supports them in their writing. In doing so, Chantelle is committed to fostering inclusivity and confidence in every student. #CGRESD #OurStory
