Clare-Gladwin RESD Speech-Language Pathologists Alison Cataldo and Summer Ward have launched a new project with the CAN Council to support local fire departments in Clare and Gladwin counties.
Inspired by Indiana’s “Ben’s Blue Bags,” they created CGRESD Sensory Support Kits—filled with visual aids, communication boards, and sensory tools—to help first responders better assist individuals with autism.
The kits are now being placed on fire trucks across the area, and Alison and Summer have been invited to present on best practices to local departments. #CGRESD #ourstory

REMC 5 Director Joe Trommater was invited to present at the annual UP MACUL Conference in Ironwood, Michigan. He was able to bring back some useful materials and tools to use for teaching computer science, project-based learning, and place-based outdoor education.

This convening was about reconnection, reflection, and forward movement. Mt. Pleasant Middle School teacher Lisa Lowrey won a DJI Mini 3 Drone from REMC 5. She was part of a series of professional learning sessions (organized by Joe Trommater from REMC 5, and taught by Brian David) that allowed her to take the FAA Part 107 exam to become a licensed commercial drone pilot. She looks forward to having her students use the videos and photos she takes in class! #REMC #CGRESD # #ourstory

On Friday, May 2nd, Clare-Gladwin Great Start Readiness teaching teams participated in a day of nature-based preschool training at the Chippewa Nature Center in Midland. Teaching teams observed children playing and learning in the nature preschool, visited classrooms, went on a nature hike/scavenger hunt, toured the visitors center, and participated in team-building activities, including a fort-making contest. Cory Sheldon and his Harrison Community Schools GSRP team won the fort-making contest, and his classroom received a nature-themed door prize worth $300.00. #CGRESD #ourstory











REMC 5 hosted the statewide RITS (REMC Instructional Tech Specialists) group at Winding Brook last week. Members from all over the state met to work on REMC projects and plan future events. They also toured the Dow Gardens, Dow Diamond, and Shepherd High School for some place and project-based learning. A special thanks to Shepherd High School teacher Mr. Russell for sharing his classroom before the MITES Competition they hosted over the weekend. #REMC #ourstory
