CGRESD

During its regular meeting on Wednesday, November 19, the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District (CGRESD) Board of Education unanimously appointed Mike Simon as Superintendent. Simon has been serving as the Interim Superintendent since earlier this year and will officially transition into the role after the contract process is completed.

His appointment comes after the departure of former Superintendent Tara Mager, who accepted a leadership position with Northwest Education Services in Traverse City. As Interim Superintendent, Simon has successfully guided the district through this leadership change, focusing on effective communication, stability, and teamwork.

Simon has over 27 years of experience in education, with the last 13 years spent at CGRESD. He began his career as the Principal of Clare-Gladwin Area School, then served as the Director of Special Education, and most recently held the position of Assistant Superintendent.  In each of these roles, Simon has worked closely with local districts, educators, and families to strengthen services and student outcomes across Clare and Gladwin counties.

“Mike has been part of CGRESD for over a decade and has built strong relationships with our schools, families, and community partners,” said CGRESD Board President Sue Murawski. “As Interim Superintendent, he provided steady, effective leadership during a time of change. His deep understanding of our organization and long-standing commitment to this region made it clear to the Board that he was the right choice to continue leading CGRESD into the future.”

Simon expressed his appreciation to the Board and reaffirmed his dedication to the region.

“I want to sincerely thank the Board of Education for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of Clare-Gladwin RESD,” Simon said. “I am truly grateful for their trust and confidence. This organization and the people who make it what it is mean a great deal to me. I look forward to continuing our work together to support students, staff, and communities and to build on the strong foundation that is already in place.”
