The Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District (CGRESD) Board of Education is pleased to appoint Mike Simon as Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. Simon currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and brings 13 years of dedicated service to the organization.

Simon will step into the interim role following the departure of Superintendent Tara Mager, who will be leaving CGRESD to serve as the new superintendent at Northwest Education Services in Traverse City.

“Mike brings an understanding of our organization, our values, and the needs of our local districts,” said CGRESD Board President Sue Murawski. “His steady leadership and strong relationships across the region make him well-suited to lead during this transition.” Murawski added, “The Board is grateful to Superintendent Tara Mager for her dedication to CGRESD and her support throughout this process.”

Following the Board’s announcement, Simon expressed appreciation for their confidence in his leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to the communities CGRESD serves. aid. “We have a great team of educators and staff at CGRESD, and our focus is on supporting our five local districts and the families who count on us. I’m looking forward to building on that foundation and supporting our mission.”

The CGRESD Board will begin a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent late fall, with the goal of having a new leader in place for the 2026-27 school year.
