ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Special Education Programs and Services

Assistive Technology (AT) is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a student with disabilities.

Who is eligible to receive Assistive Technology assistance and how is that determined?

  • Students who have difficulty accessing educational materials or participating in their curriculum may be eligible to receive AT assistance as a supplementary service within an Individual Education Plan (IEP)

  • The specific need for AT assistance is determined by a team of individuals who are knowledgeable about the student’s needs and abilities, the demands of customary environments, the student’s educational objectives and tasks, and supports.

  • Consideration of AT is an ongoing process that occurs throughout the duration of the student’s education.

How can I get started with AT assistance?

The local district team completes the Assistive Technology review form and returns the completed form to the Assistive Technology Administrator.
