ABOUT

The establishment of the Clare Gladwin and Midland McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Consortium is complete with Clare Gladwin RESD serving as the fiscal agent. All of the local school districts and public school academies, in the three counties, have joined, except one PSA which does not accept any federal funds. As required, partnership agreements have been signed with the Continuum of Care in all three counties.

As of September, 2017, our Consortium has identified more than 2,100 homeless children and youth. The local district liaison is responsible for evaluating each individual situation and determining the needs. To date, the grant has provided reimbursement for homeless student stop-gap excess transportation costs to and from school; backpacks filled with school supplies, books, and hygiene supplies; clothing; housing costs; emergency shelter; diapers and pull-ups; prom tickets; recovery credit costs, and caps and gowns for graduation exercises; and food.  The support from McKinney-Vento is especially effective when addressing the needs of unaccompanied youth who are working to complete the requirements necessary to earn a high school diploma.
