Course Overview

Welding Technology teaches students the art and technology of joining metals using heat, equipment and industry welding processes. Students learn welding safety, fabrication, blueprint reading, welding symbols, measurement and problem-solving skills used in the welding and manufacturing fields.

Students have opportunities to:

  • Practice multiple welding and cutting processes used in industry

  • Fabricate projects from blueprints using math and measurement skills

  • Work toward national certifications and college credit through Mid Michigan College

From day one, students focus on safety while building real-world welding skills in a lab environment.

What You’ll Learn

Students develop skills used in welding, fabrication and related manufacturing careers.

  • GMAW/MIG Welding, SMAW/Stick Welding and GTAW/TIG Welding

  • Flux-Cored Arc Welding, Oxy-Fuel Cutting and Plasma Cutting

  • Blueprint Reading, Welding Symbols and Inspection

  • Fabrication, Measurement, Health and Safety

A.M. Session
8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

P.M. Session
12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Length of Program

  • 1 year for AWS SENSE Certification

  • 1.5 years if fol

Learning Environment

Students spend time in the welding lab, combining classroom instruction with hands-on training to develop welding skills, safety practices and industry-standard techniques.

Second-Year Requirements

Students returning should:

  • Have good attendance

  • Have no classroom discipline referrals

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher

  • Work well with others

  • Be self-directed

  • Show interest in a manufacturing career
